LED Dental is currently looking for US practices to take part in its artificial intelligence (AI) oral cancer detection study using the company’s VELscope device. The aim of the study is for AI and computer-enhanced assessments to assist clinicians in making faster, more confident decisions for patient care. By participating in this study, practices may be eligible for tax rebates and credits for equipment purchases as well as patient experience improvements.

Study participants will receive a VELscope Vx handpiece and battery pack, a charging cradle, 1 pair of safety glasses, patient brochures, an operation manual, and a quick reference and step-by-step guide.
Participants will be asked to share information about their practices and key team members will be interviewed to identify projects, departments, technologies, or processes where qualifying research expenditures may be found, according to LED Dental. LED will work with the practice to collect supporting documentation to substantiate qualified research expenditures. Using this information, the company will determine the potential tax savings and future benefits of an R&D study.
Step 2 of the study is the discovery stage, where LED Dental will interview additional practice staff that is conducting activities that may qualify them for federal and state R&D tax credits, according to the company. Lastly, LED will work with its accounting team to prepare the tax forms your accountant will need to include with your return.
